The Chinese language is one of the branches of Sino-Tibetan family of languages. Initially, it used to be the language of China’s main ethnic group - the Han. In its standard form, the Chinese language is the official language of PRC and Taiwan and one of the six official and working languages of the UN.
The Chinese language is a combination of different dialects and thus is considered by most linguistics as an independent language branch consisting of separate though interrelated language and/or dialect groups.
